From its early beginnings as a training organization the Association has grown and become an important advocate on behalf of its members with the Provincial and Federal Governments. The Association is regularly consulted by the Ontario Government on infrastructure and transportation related issues and monitors the legislative agenda of the government and attempts to influence public policy. The Associate has also developed many tools to assist municipalities in the day-to-day operation of their public works departments. ==Governance== The Association is a registered nonprofit (organization ) under the laws of Ontario and has a Constitution. The Association is governed by a 15 member Board of Directors consisting of municipal elected and appointed individuals. The term of office of a director is one year with a seven year maximum. There are 3 officers (President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President) and together with the Immediate Past President and one other Director, form the Executive Committee. Terms of office for all officers is one year with automatic ascension to the higher office. The Board of Directors sets overall policy for the association including the adoption of the annual budget.
